ジェリー・マリガン（Gerry Mulligan）と新ピアノレス・カルテットが、チェット・ベイカー（Chet Baker）の代わりとして、ジョン・アードレイ（Jon Eardley）を迎えた新バンドで録音したライブ盤が「Gerry Mulligan - California Concerts (Pacific Jazz PJ-1201)」です。
CD化に際し、大量の未発表曲を追加。２枚のCDとして再発された２枚目が「Gerry Mulligan - California Concerts Vol. 2 (Pacific Jazz PJ-1201/Capitol CDP-546864)」となります。
「Gerry Mulligan - California Concerts Vol. 2 (Pacific Jazz PJ-1201/Capitol CDP-546864)」に収録された６曲目から１４曲目には、ゲスト・ミュージシャンとしてヴァルブ・トロンボーンのボブ・ブルックマイヤー（Bob Brookmeyer）と、テナー・サックスのズート・シムズ（Zoot Sims）が加わっております。
７曲目「Western Reunion」ではズート・シムズ（Zoot Sims）、ボブ・ブルックマイヤー（Bob Brookmeyer）と、ゲスト・ミュージシャンの快演が続きます。
１４曲目のエリントン・メドレー「In A Sentimental Mood / Flamingo / Moon Mist」も絶品ですね。
演奏の途中で何故か聴こえるピアノは、ボブ・ブルックマイヤー（Bob Brookmeyer）が弾いているみたいです。
また、メドレーの中盤に登場する「Flamingo」だけ編集され、アルバム「Zoot Sims - Choice (PJ-20)」でも聴く事が出来る様です。
２枚のCDに分散され発売された「Gerry Mulligan - California Concerts」は、トランペットのジョン・アードレイ（Jon Eardley）の好演や、ヴァルブ・トロンボーンのボブ・ブルックマイヤー（Bob Brookmeyer）と、テナー・サックスのズート・シムズ（Zoot Sims）の奮闘のお陰か、期待せず聴いたら「大当たり」だったアルバムだったりします。
