マイルス・デイヴィス（Miles Davis）率いる、ジョン・コルトレーン（John Coltrane）を
擁する50年代「第１期クインテット」が、1956年の05月11日と10月26日の２回に渡り行った、通称「マラソン・セッション」と呼ばれるスタジオ録音。
その第２弾として発売されたのが、このアルバム「Relaxin' (Prestige PRLP 7129)」。
1956年05月に14曲録音した中から２曲。11月に12曲録音した中から４曲選ばれてます。
１曲目「If I Were a Bell」冒頭からマイルスの会話が入ったり、２曲目「You're My Everything」でシングルトーンでイントロ引き出すレッド・ガーランド（Red Garland）にマイルスが「ブロック・コードで弾け！」と指示を出したりと、スタジオ内の会話をふんだんに
取り入れる事で「Relaxin'」な雰囲気を演出している風にも思えます。
演奏する参考にと、一番聴いたのは「I Could Write a Book」かなあ。
時々、マイルスの録音をスタジオで見学しているような錯覚に陥る事もある（笑）アルバムです。
